Memorial Day marks the start of what the South Carolina Highway Patrol calls the "100 Deadly Days of Summer."

SCHP uses the slogan as a reminder for drivers to be extra careful on the roads and as an opportunity to increase enforcement of traffic laws.

Last year, during the Memorial Day Weekend travel period (6 p.m. Friday to midnight Monday), ten people died in South Carolina.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reminds everyone to buckle up, especially teenagers.

Troopers were out in extra numbers along Bikefest routes to ensure bikers get into and out of the Grand Strand area safely.

There were three deaths involving motorcycles during the recent Harley Spring Rally, which ran from May 11-20.
