An overdue boater was found safe in Georgetown's Winyah Bay at approximately 4:15 a.m. Friday.

Phillip Hixon, 29, was located by a Coast Guard rescue boat crew.

Nixon was conducting normal operations and was not in distress.

Operational watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Charleston were notified at approximately 1:30 a.m., Friday by Hixon's father, reporting that he had not returned by sunset as expected.

A Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, a Coast Guard Station Charleston 24-foot Special Purpose Craft and the Georgetown Sherriff’s Department conducted the search.
