Horry County police charged Daniel Allen Franks, 21, of Lumberton, NC, with Purse Snatching, Assault and Battery 3rd Degree, and Malicious Damage to Personal Property.
Police say he ran up to a woman getting in her car and grabbed her purse, breaking her car key and knocking her to the ground. It happened about 1:35 p.m. Sunday at the WalMart near Surfside Beach.
When the woman screamed, people in the parking lot came to her aid. One person started chasing the man. He was taken to the ground and another person held him until police arrived.
Police arrested the man and gave the woman back her purse.
