(AP) - It would appear the end of the world is not so near.
This was the day on which one Christian group predicted that Jesus Christ would return to earth to gather the faithful into heaven.
The prediction originated with Harold Camping, the 89-year-old founder of an independent ministry that broadcasts around the world. He made a similar pronouncement in 1994, but his followers later said that wasn't really an end-of-the-world kind of thing. This time, Camping said it was definite.
Among those who are certain to be disappointed are the followers of a Facebook page that suggested a "post rapture looting" event in which non-believers left behind on Earth could pick up stereo equipment and furniture.
A lot of mainstream Christians don't like the attention the prediction is getting. Pastors are planning sermons tomorrow to make the point that nobody can predict a date for the end of the world
