COLUMBIA (AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Opposing sides of a proposed sales tax exemption for Amazon.com are gearing up for a second vote in the South Carolina House.

More than 100 people gathered at the Statehouse on Tuesday to call on the House to approve the deal. They included legislative leaders, local officials and Congressman Joe Wilson.

Opponents gathered immediately afterward and included tea party activists and the director of the state's small-business chamber.

Hours after last month's rejection, Amazon announced it was abandoning plans to create 1,250 jobs at a new distribution center in Lexington County.

Amazon sought a five-year exemption from collecting sales taxes from online shoppers in South Carolina. Supporters say the break costs nothing because the company doesn't collect the tax now.

Opponents contend the exemption isn't fair to local retailers.

Do you think Amazon should be granted the tax exemption?
