BOLIVA, N.C. (AP) - A Brunswick County deputy has shot and killed a 73-year-old man who authorities say pointed a gun at officers.
The sheriff's office said in a news release that two deputies responded Friday night to a call about a man shooting a gun in his garage.
Authorities say when the officers arrived, William Gordon Brown pointed the gun at them and did not drop the weapon. The deputies shot him with a Taser, but it had no effect.
When Brown again refused to drop his gun, investigators say deputy Joe Genda fired two shots, killing Brown.
Glenda has been placed on administrative duty with pay while the State Bureau of Investigation looks into the shooting.
