Progress Energy will test its alert notification sirens in the ten-mile area around the HB Robinson Nuclear Plant on Tuesday, May 24.

Sirens will sound for about 15 seconds between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The test is something Progress Energy does every three months.

The purpose of the test is to alert the public in the event of an emergency at the Robinson Plant. Residents should tune into local radio and TV stations for information and instructions should a real emergency occur. There's no need for residents to evacuate during the test on May 24.

Chesterfield, Darlington and Lee counties work in conjunction with Progress Energy on the operation.

The Robinson Nuclear Plant is located about five miles from Hartsville.
