Inteva Products will be closing its Mullins plant in the next six to nine months. The company is moving its Mullins production to an existing facility in Gadsden, Alabama.
The Mullins plant makes window regulators and window regulator motors.
"We are consolidating operations due to excess capacity and the high overhead costs associated with such a situation," said Steve Galle, Vice President, Operations for Inteva Products, in a press release. "This action follows a strategic review of our U.S. Operations and is in keeping with our commitment to provide customer value through a competitive manufacturing footprint."
About 42 people will lose their jobs as a result of the shutdown. They were told of the closing last week.
The closure hits a a county struggling with unemployment. Marion County continually has the highest unemployment rate in the state. In March, it was almost 19 percent.
