More than 50 high school seniors are graduating college at the same time this year.
53 seniors from 9 Horry County High Schools celebrated graduating with a high school diploma and an associates degree. Many of them have already walked in Horry Georgetown Technical College's graduation.
"These students have been so excited for the last week or so because they finished their final exams for Horry-Georgetown Technical College, and they realize that this is a big accomplishment for any student, but these students feel like they've accomplished so much by having had this opportunity," said Early College Principal Joan Grimmett.
Students in Horry County School's Early College programs complete college course while they're still finishing high school. The students graduating from Horry-Georgetown Technical College will receive an associate's of arts degree.
The students going on to a four year college will transfer with up to 65 college credit hours, which will put them starting as juniors.
They've been taking college level sciences, math, English, and social sciences classes in addition to their high school workload.
To date.. 34 students are enrolled for early college next year. ECHS became a high school last year.
