The general manager of Coast RTA (Rapid Transit Association) took to one of his own buses Monday, for the first of a series of rides on public transportation routes.
Myers Rollins has designated May as "Ride with the GM" month. He'll spend each Monday, Wednesday and Friday riding as many of Coast RTA's routes as possible in Horry and Georgetown counties.
Rollins grabbed a ride Monday morning starting at Coast RTA's main office on 3rd Avenue in Conway. We rode along with him to Tanger Outlet Mall on Highway 501.
He talked with riders about works and what could be improved with the service. One passenger told him how he depends on the service to get to work. "That's sort of the voice that we never hear and the face that we never see. That reaffirms, for me, this lifeline. For them, this isn't just a bus. This is their lifeline," Rollins said.
Rollins plans to discuss his findings with the Coast RTA board.
