COLUMBIA (AP) -- WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Wal-Mart says it is bringing 4,000 new jobs and $400 million in investments to South Carolina over the next five years.
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haleyand Wal-Mart CEO Bill Simon appeared at a news conference in West Columbia Wednesday afternoon to make the announcement.
The move means at least a dozen new stores and relocations and expansions for other existing Wal-Mart stores across the state. The company says there are no plans to expand its distribution center near Greenville.
Wal-Mart's decision brings its total number of jobs in South Carolina to approximately 32,000. Simon says the move has been in the works for months, and Haley said it had nothing to do with the decision by Amazon.com to pull its plans for a distribution center.
