COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina senators are resuming debate on a $5.8 billion spending plan.

Wednesday's debate comes after senators on Tuesday rejected a proposal to increase state workers' insurance premiums by about $4 a month.

Republican Sen. Greg Ryberg of Aiken argued workers should cover more of the cost than the $6 monthly increase they already will pay. He called for them to cover 45 percent of the additional cost and the state would pick up 55 percent.

The Senate also appears to have had its fill of naming things the official whatever after senators named collard greens the official state vegetable last week. Gaffney Sen. Harvey Peeler won approval for a measure that bars using state money to promote anything new earning the official designation.
