A Myrtle Beach officer was honored Monday for his commitment to his department.
The Myrtle Beach Rotary Club named Corporal Brian Truex the Myrtle Beach Officer of the Year. He was nominated for his overall contribution to the department, but mostly because his computer skills were essential to the the installation of a new operating system.
"The Rotary Club does this every year and I know how much of an honor it is. It was an honor just to be nominated. The people I was nominated with are great officers, There are a lot of great officers in our department that deserve this award just as much as I do," he told NewsChannel 15.
Truex spent ten years with Myrtle Beach Police Department in the traffic division, street crimes section, special operations response team, and most recently, in the support service division.
The award is given in honor of Joe McGarry, an officer who lost his life in the line of duty. You can read his story here.
