CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A motorcycle procession led a hearse carrying the remains of Sgt. 1st Class Donnie Shue the Vietnam War veteran's final journey to his North Carolina home.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Saturday's event drew thousands for the motorcycle procession and ceremonies in downtown Concord then in Veterans Park in Kannapolis.

Shue hadn't been seen since he was on a mission in Laos during the Vietnam War in November 1969.

A few months ago, his sister Betty Jones got a call from Army officials saying his remains had been found. A Laotian farmer found Shue's remains - which the investigators confirmed after uncovering a Zippo lighter with his name on it.
