Friday afternoon, deputies charged a man in connection with the beating of his 16 month old stepson.
Sheriff Mark Richardson tells NewsChannel 15 the child is intensive care unit at a charleston hospital with severe head trauma and bruises all over his body.
Richardson says doctors say the baby boy isn't out of the woods.
The sheriff has charged the child's stepfather, Johnny Campbell, 28, with inflicting great bodily harm to a child.
Sheriff Richardson says the incident happened last week at Campbell's home in Greenwood Park community last week, he remains behind bars.
