State Rep. Alan Clemmons speaks in Myrtle Beach. To Clemmons' right is SC's 1st Congressional District Rep. Tim Scott.
In a reception Friday afternoon, State Representative Alan Clemmons hinted he would be interested in a possible seventh congressional seat coming to South Carolina.
The 2010 census showed the Grand Strand's population has grown giving the possibility of another seat to the area.
"I'm not going to speculate, because as of now there is no seventh congressional seat," Clemmons says. "But if the opportunity presented itself, I would look into the possibility."
In 2010, Clemmons nipped speculation that he would seek the 1st Congressional District seat, representing Horry County, after then-Congressman Henry Brown announced his retirement. At Friday's reception Clemmons admitted that he did not feel ready to run for the seat at the time.
Attendees to the reception were funding Clemmons' bid to run for re-election for District 107 representing Horry County.
Congressmen Tim Scott District 1, Joe Wilson District 2, Jeff Duncan District 3 and Mick Mulvaney District 5 attended Friday's event to show their support for Clemmons' re-election. Scott even showed his support for Clemmons if he decides to run for the congressional seat.
"Right now, I'm enjoying representing Horry County in the Nation's Capitol," says Scott. "But I couldn't think of anyone better to represent a congressional district if it came to the Grand Strand other than Alan Clemmons."
