England's Prince William and Kate Middleton will exchange vows on Friday, but Grand Strand wedding chapels say few local couples have chosen the same day to get married.
Lover's Lane Chapel in Myrtle Beach has only one wedding scheduled for Friday and it was already planned before the royal couple announced their date.
Chapel owner Linda Gross says she's surprised that only a few couples expressed interest in that date and none of them committed.
For the one couple who will marry on April 29th, Gross plans a special gift to tie-in with the royal wedding in England.
"I always want every wedding to be very special but I do want to make this one just a little bit more special for them, because it is such a fantastic day for the world."
Gross says she's trying to come up with a gift that will be appropriate, though she laughs, "it's hard to find that in Myrtle Beach." Gross and her mother have thought of a few gift ideas, like mentioning the royal wedding in some type of paperwork that can be a keepsake for the couple.
At Seaside Wedding Chapel in Little River, Rev. Lamar Boulware has no weddings scheduled for Friday and it's the only Friday this month when the chapel won't have a wedding. Boulware says he has no idea whether the lack of a service scheduled for the 29th is by accident or intentional, but he'll preside over one large wedding the day prior and 10 more the day after.
He says he plans to mow the lawn on Friday.
Some Myrtle Beach wedding chapels have offered special promotions for couples planning services on the royal wedding day, but Boulware says he never thought of that.
"Maybe I should have offered an incentive," he said. "I don't know if we can do much more. Sometimes, the grass has to get cut, too."
