BENNETTSVILLE, SC -- A high speed chase with a possible suspect from a shooting death has come to an end in Bennettsville. The suspect stopped the car in front of his mother's house and refuses to come out.

The chase ended about 6:15 p.m. on Union Street in Bennettsville. Deputies have that street blocked off on both ends from traffic.

Callers into the NewsChannel 15 newsroom told us a man dropped off a woman who had been shot at the Marlboro Park Hospital around 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Marlboro County Coroner has confirmed that the woman has died. He says at this time, he's treating her death as a homicide.

After leaving the hospital, police say the suspect slowed the car and dropped a baby from the car. The child has been taken to the hospital, but we're told the baby is okay.

We have learned Bennettsville Police and the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office were involved in a high speed chase with the suspect. The chase lasted for about 20 miles.

Negotiators are now talking with the man in the car.

We have a crew on the scene and will continue to bring you updates on this developing story here on CarolinaLive.com and on NewsChannel 15 at 11pm.
