Bodies Revealed will open at Broadway at the Beach on May 14.

The exhibit features real bodies that have been dissected and preserved to teach visitors more about the complexity of their own organs and systems.

This is the first time Bodies Revealed has come to South Carolina.

"For centuries, the medical community has learned about the inner workings of anatomy through the study of real human bodies, and now it's possible for the public to gain an intimate knowledge as well," said Dr. Roy Glover, chief medical director for Bodies Revealed in a press release. "The exhibition will change the way people of South Carolina see themselves. It will enlighten, empower, fascinate and inspire."

Bodies Revealed will be on the northeastern side of Broadway at the Beach. It will cost $14 for adults and $10 for children. Children under the age of three are free. It will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It will be open through September 5th.

It gives visitors an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and other systems of the human body. You can also learn the damage done to the body by things like overeating and smoking.

"The Bodies Revealed exhibit is one-of-a-kind experience that is sure to provide everyone with an insightful and new perspective into the human body," said Patrick Walsh, senior vice president of asset management with the Burroughs & Chapin Company in a press release. "This exhibit will give the more than 13 million people who visit Broadway at the Beach annually an unprecedented opportunity to see inside the human body in a way that most people outside the medical profession never have a chance to do. It is a great educational exhibit for people of all ages to learn and understand more about themselves and we're extremely excited to be able to offer it at Broadway at the Beach."

The bodies in the exhibit were donated for scientific purposes.
