The Grand Strand Humane Society is taking care of 18 kittens abandoned in Myrtle Beach.

Operations Director Rita Rhodes says three days ago a woman found the kittens in a plastic container without a lid near a dumpster on Third Avenue South.

Rhodes says this isn't the first time someone has abandoned animals instead of taking them to a shelter.

The kittens are not quite eight weeks old yet so they can't be adopted right now.

Once they reach the appropriate age, you have an opportunity to give them a new home.
