SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) - Members of the Air Force's 20th Civil Engineering Squadron at Shaw Air Force Base are celebrating both Earth Day and Arbor Day with activities to help enhance and  protect the environment.

Squadron spokesman Danny McKay says Friday's activities include unit commanders taking part in a tree-planting ceremony.

The unit is suggesting airmen take part in simple measures to help protect the environment, such as carpooling.

McKay says participants who enter the base as part of a carpool early Friday morning will get vouchers for free t-shirts.

The unit's social council is hosting a free barbecue lunch at the Memorial Park shelter on Friday and booths will be nearby to enhance members' awareness of environmental issues.
