A lightning strike April 16th damaged Santee Electric's Hemingway substation, and the company is advising residents in the area to use extreme caution in that area where they see linemen working to get the substation back to normal.
Although power was restored by 3:00 a.m. April 17th, there could be brief outages while the facility is being repaired.
Santee Electric President and CEO Floyd L. Keels said, "We ask the public to stay as far away from line crews as possible as they work. Safety is our top priority and we are extremely grateful that no one was injured in the incident," he added. "Let's all work together to make sure that when all the necessary repairs are completed, we can still make that statement."
Santee Electric reminds you to never approach a downed power line even if it looks like it's not energized. Call 1-888-239-2300 to report outages or suspicious looking lines.
