CAROLINA FOREST -- Forestry Commission crews are back on the scene of a brush fire near Carolina Forest this morning.

Horry County and state firefighters are reinforcing containment lines after the wildfire that started Sunday afternoon on International Drive flared back up.

The fire has been contained since Sunday night, but around 4:00 p.m. Monday, heavy smoke could be seen rising from the area and a "rekindle" was called in.

South Carolina Forestry Commission spokesman Scott Hawkins says it's called a "spot over," and it's when the fire flares up inside the containment area and embers land outside the containment area.

The spot-over area covers about 7 acres.

Since firefighters were already on scene they were able to respond quickly to the location. There are about 12 units on scene.

Monday night, Hawkins said another 35-45 acres burned Monday.  We're told the estimate of what burned Sunday is now 43 acres. That's down from the 50-75 originally estimated.

Forestry workers are still not sure what started the fire or exactly where it started.

They hope to release some information on Tuesday.

No structures were damaged.

Hawkins says the afternoon is peak time for wild fires because winds are at their strongest, ground fuel is at its driest, and people are most active.
