HORRY COUNTY -- Horry County police say scammers are identifying themselves as Horry County police officers to get money from victims.

They say a man with a Jamaican accent called the south and central precincts Monday morning, asking if it was the police department. The man got the officer's name and hung up.

Police say on Monday afternoon they got calls from citizens asking if the officers worked at the Horry County Police Department. The callers told police a man with a Jamaican accent called saying he was an Horry County police officer and they had won $5,000,000 and a Mercedes in a drawing. The man then said someone else would be calling to work out the details.

Horry County police say they are not a part of any drawing, raffle or contest.

If you get a call from a man claiming to be an Horry County police officer saying you won a contest, you should call police.
