LITTLE RIVER, SC -- An Horry County police report says one dead dog, and seven other emaciated ones were found on the property of Scott Edward Vereen last week.

The report says police were called to Ace Way Road, off Sandridge in Little River. Once they arrived, they found a dog pen near the edge of the woods. Police say one dog was dead inside a barrel in the pen. The other seven dogs were emaciated and suffering skin conditions believed to be mange. Authorities also found no food or water in the pen.

According to J. Reuben Long Detention Center, Vereen is being held there without bail on eight counts of ill treatment of animals.

The dogs are currently being held and evaluated at Horry County Animal Care Center.
