(AP) -- The economic picture in Robeson County is a little sweeter, thanks to about 340 new jobs coming to Pembroke.

Gov. Beverly Perdue announced Tuesday that Steven Roberts Original Desserts and Tickleberry Desserts will open a bakery, with plans to invest $4 million in the facility.

Salaries for the new jobs will vary, but the average will pay roughly $23,000 a year. The unemployment rate in Robeson County is around 12.3 percent, significantly higher than the state average of 9.7 percent.

Pembroke was chosen for the new bakery in part because of a grant of nearly $400,000 from the One North Carolina Fund. The fund provides financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects to the state.
