Horry County Schools Superintendent says the district is already doing more than the minimum requirements set by the state of South Carolina when it comes to principals' evaluations, even if a new proposal requiring more passes.
State lawmakers are considering requiring evaluations for the nearly 1,150 principals in the state every other year. The way it stands right now, evaluations are required every three years.
Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Elsberry says they meet with the more than 50 principals in the Horry County School District three times a year.
"We have specific goals they have to help us set, and they're quantifiable," she said. "We assess those every time we meet to see how the school is progressing."
The state's Deputy Superintendent for Educator Quality, Mark Bounds, says the proposed regulations are about finding and creating the most effective school leaders.
