MARION COUNTY, SC -- Marion County deputies say they caught a man trying to steal an HVAC unit, but ended up charging he and another man with a lot more.
On April 7th, deputies say they found Joseph Kenneth Roberts, 42, of Marion, trying to steal a heating and air conditioning unit from a home on West Marion Road. When they searched his truck, they say they found tools for the theft, prescription drugs and a pipe bomb.
They charged Roberts with Malicious Injury to Property, Possession of a Destructive Device or Explosive and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Deputies say when they questioned Roberts, he said he got the pipe bomb from a man named David Stackhouse.
Deputies say they contacted Stackhouse who admitted to making three pipe bombs. They say he told them he detonated one. Deputies search Stackhouse's home and say they found another pipe bomb and an arsenal of weapons and ammunition.
Deputies charged Stackhouse with Possession of a Destructive Device or Explosive.
They seized the weapons and ammunition and state and federal agents destroyed the two pipe bombs.
