More than 350 people woke up early Saturday morning to run and walk for autism awareness at the Market Common. SOS Healthcare held their second annual 5K and one mile run and walk. The Myrtle Beach nonprofit provides services for the health of children. Its program, Building Futures, offers programs for children affected by the developmental disability autism.

"We still meet people in the area who do not know what autism is. We're out trying to educate people all the time and events like this bring awareness to the disability," SOS Executive Director Sarah Pope says.

Pope says one in every 91 children is diagnosed with autism, but the group is making strides when it comes to awareness.

April is autism awareness month.
