Williamsburg County Coroner Harrison McKnight says an autopsy performed at the Medical University of South Carolina shows 63-year-old Roy Edward Poston was shot several times.
According to Chief Randy Swinton with Williamsburg County Fire Department, a passerby saw the fire at the victim's home on Highway 261, about four miles east of Hemingway. That person then called 911.
Swinton says by the time crews got to the scene, flames covered the house. He says after they put out the fire, they found the body of Poston at the back of the house.
Williamsburg County Sheriff Michael Johnson says investigators are having a hard time gathering evidence since Poston's home was destroyed by the fire.
They are now trying to locate anyone who last saw the victim alive.
The fire and Poston's death is under investigation.
