One in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism. Autism is a developmental disorder that affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills.

Saturday, April 2, is world autism awareness day. To celebrate, and gather awareness, the Autism Advocate Foundation held a fundraiser even at the Jersey Mike's sandwich shop in Murrells Inlet.

The entire month of April, Jersey Mike's is donating portions of when people order off their menu to the foundation. Members of the Autism Advocate Foundation were out Saturday afternoon passing out information about therapies and programs they offer. One of those programs include giving tracking bracelets to children with autism.

Gary says the Autism Advocate Foundation has been in existence in Horry County since 2007. They still have a lot of work to do, she says.
