Matthew Tyler Hutto in court for a bond hearing Friday
LATTA -- Bond was set at $50,000 for Matthew Tyler Hutto.
Hutto, who was the band director at Latta High School until Thursday, was charged Friday with 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor.
In court Friday afternoon, we learned the incidents involve two students, ages 15 and 16, and occurred between May of 2010 and this week.
The superintendent of Dillon School District 3, Dr. John Kirby, says Hutto's employment at Latta High School ended Thursday.
Kirby would not say if Hutto resigned or was terminated.
Kirby released the following statement:
"It is always unfortunate when any school anywhere has a sudden loss of a staff member for any reason. Even in this disappointing circumstance, the focus for the district now is the search for a new band director, support for the students and staff at the school and moving forward with planned spring band concerts and the program. I am confident that with the resilience and ability of our band students, they will continue to showcase their skills with their traditional award winning success."
Kirby also said that the district is cooperating with the families involved and with the investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division, the Dillon County Sheriff's Department, the Latta Police Department, and the Dillon Police Department.
Hutto is due back in court on May 31st.
We're told Hutto is posting bond and will most likely be released Friday evening.
