CONWAY -- The Northeastern Strategic Alliance mapped out its four most important initiatives Friday: taking on more projects, pursuing and expanding existing industries, initiating construction of Interstate 73, and increasing awareness of what NESA is doing.
I-73 would run from Michigan to Myrtle Beach, making it the first interstate into the Grand Strand.
NESA says the road is closer to getting done than ever before. It doesn't believe the highway will be a toll road, at least in the beginning. The group is confident the road will get the support it needs, especially since Governor Nikki Haley is in favor of the interstate.
The construction of I-73 would create jobs. The highway is also expected to make way for more industry because there will be an easier way to travel to the Grand Strand.
Consultant Carol Johnson told NESA ,at the agency's meeting Friday, how it could lure in more industry. She suggests building a credible selling team, looking for industry that fits the area and embracing regionalism.
Besides I-73, NESA is working on 38 active projects.
