Grand opening ceremony for Boys and Girls Club of Marion County
The Boys and Girls Club has a new place to call home in Marion County.
Wednesday, the Grice Recreation Center held its grand opening for the Boys and Girls Club.
The club is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing kids ages 6 to 18 with educational and recreational programs each day after school, which members say is a great time to reach out the kids.
"We have as great a need as anywhere. The kids here go home after school. They have nowhere to go. They have nothing to do, and there are a lot of times if their parents maybe at work till 11-12 at night - they don't have anybody at home. They need somebody with some interest, somebody that can help them do homework, and someone who can assist them in other needs they have," said Gwen Strickland, Chairman of the Boys and Girls Club.
The Boys and Girls Club of Marion County was started three years ago by the RALI Group. It costs just $5 a semester for kids to join.
