About 100 vendors and competitors participated in a build your own boat race organized by the Flying Fish at Barefoot Landing.

Nearly a dozen teams composed of two to five people began building their boats at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. They could use any materials as long as the boat had no motors. They had to finish by 3:00p.m., and then raced later Saturday afternoon.

In all, eight boats raced and 15 vendors displayed items, with proceeds going to the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society and the Department of Natural Resources. Organizers estimate they raised about $380.

First place went to Greg Norman with a canoe style boat.

No boats sank, but one capsized. Another got stuck and had to be towed in.
