The accident happened just after 5:00 a.m. on Cartersville Highway in Darlington County.

Coroner Todd Hardee says Clint Wesley Boyd, 30, died at the scene.

State Troopers say Boyd was traveling south when he ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Boyd served as the assistant football coach for Lamar High School. Darlington County Schools Public Information Officer Audrey Childers says he worked at the school for three years.

In a statement released to the media, Lamar High School principal Kathy Gainey says, "Coach Clint Boyd was a big part of the Lamar High School Silver Foxes family and he will be greatly missed. All our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this terrible tragedy."

Boyd's father, J.R. Boyd, is the head football coach at Lamar High School.
