(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina officials will release the unemployment rate for February on the heels of news that January's rate was down to 10.5 percent.
The state Department of Employment and Workforce will release he state Department of Employment and Workforce will release jobless numbers Friday morning.
Earlier this month, the state reported the improvement in the unemployment rate in January from December. That improvement came despite a seasonal loss of more than 42,000 jobs for the month.
South Carolina posted a gain of more than 13,000 jobs over the previous year, but economists say that is not considered a good job growth rate for the state.
The main drag on jobs was government employment.
Despite those gains, South Carolina still had the sixth-highest jobless rate in the nation.
