Officials with Dillon County Fire Station 1 say a brush fire that burned 15 acres near the North Carolina line along Highway 57 started with an illegal burn.

The fire departments says no one's been ticketed, but Forestry is working to locate the person who started the fire.

Firefighters spent about 4 hours getting the fire under control and out Wednesday afternoon. It started around 3 p.m.

Crews from both North and South Carolina battled the fire.
