Last January, MRR Southern, LLC sued "Citizens for Marlboro County" for slander and defamation.

Officials with "Citizens for Marlboro County" tell us a hearing will be held Thursday afternoon before Circuit Court Judge Michael Nettles at the Florence County Courthouse to determine if the lawsuit should be dismissed.

"Citizens for Marlboro County" has been fighting the company's efforts to build a 900 acre landfill near the Wallace area of Marlboro County since 2007.

The company alleges the group initiated a smear campaign to damage the company's reputation.

In the lawsuit, MRR says the group made false and defamatory statements through print advertising and on the group's website. The lawsuit asks for damages and attorney's fees.
