Rodell Vereen, the Horry County man who pleaded guilty in 2009 to having sex with a horse, was released from prison on March 1, after having served one year and four months in prison.
Vereen was originally sentenced to three years.
Vereen pleaded guilty to a charge of buggery and a charge of violating probation in July 2008. He was arrested again in July 2009 for having sex with a horse.
Vereen was on probation at the time of his 2009 arrest for the buggery charge.
Vereen admitted to having sex with Sugar, a 21-year-old horse kept at Lazy B Stables near Longs, after Barbara Kenley, the horse's owner, provided Horry County police with surveillance video of Vereen having sex with Sugar.
In court, on the day of his guilty plea, Vereen apologized for his actions. Kenley said she was relieved Vereen would be in jail, but thought he should have received a longer sentence.
The state Department of Corrections says Vereen is now being supervised by the Horry County Probation, Parole & Pardon office.
Senior Agent Richard Loskill says Judge Larry Hyman had ordered mental health treatment for Vereen during incarceration, which Loskill says he did receive. Vereen is continuing to undergo mental health counseling now that he's been released.
There is a restraining order still in place, restricting Vereen from going onto the Lazy B Stables property. Vereen will be on probation for two years.
