The cats were taken from the Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary earlier this month after a PETA investigation.
SOCASTEE -- More cats that were taken from an Horry County animal sanctuary earlier this month are ready to go to good homes starting Monday.
Horry County officials seized 237 cats from Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary after an undercover investigation by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Later, the county euthanized 107 of those animals for medical reasons
The sanctuary was run by Elizabeth Owen who has asked for a jury trial on her charge of Ill Treatment of Animals.
While she's awaiting trial, Horry County Animal Care Center has custody of the cats. She agreed to allow the county to put them up for adoption.
Horry County Animal Care Center will hold another Cat Adopt-A-Thon for about 26 of the remaining cats.
It will begin on Monday, March 21 and will continue until a majority of the cats are adopted. The temporary holding facility, which has been temporarily named the Animal Care Center (ACC) South, is located at 200 River Road behind Socastee High School.
The adopt-a-thon will run Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The adoption fees will be $25 per cat and the cost will include spaying/neutering, microchip, Feline RCP vaccine, one year Rabies vaccine, Feline Leukemia testing, deworming, flea treatment, and 30-days free of pet health insurance.
The county says all of the cats that will be eligible for adoption have been examined by a license veterinarian and have also received antibiotic therapy. The cats available for adoption can be viewed online at <http://www.horrycounty.org/depts/pubsafety/AnimalCare.asp>.
Once you click on a cat, the "location" line will either state Horry County Animal Care Center or ACC South.
