CONWAY -- Conway police say Sarah Lewis Hemingway, 50, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of animal cruelty before Judge Andy Hendrick.

Hemingway was charged February 24th after a traffic stop. An officer noticed her dog, a chow, had a collar embedded in its neck. Officers seized the dog and took it to the Horry County Animal Care Center for treatment.

Judge Hendrick ordered Hemingway to reimburse the Horry County Animal Care Center for the care and treatment her dog. She was also ordered to relinquish her rights to the dog.

Conway police say the chow is in good condition and soon will be available for adoption.
