A former United States Marine is bicycling across the United States for an African nation.
Steve Rife is on a two month cross country journey to help his church, Covenant United Methodist in Florida, to raise money to build a medical clinic and drill a clean water well for a village in Kenya.
He started his trip in San Diego, California.
So far, he's pedaled more than 2,500 miles, and he won't finish until he reaches Maine.
Wednesday, Rife ventured through the Grand Strand and spoke to NewsChannel 15 about the difficulties he's faced while on his journey.
Rife said, "The first day was the worst, it was 85 miles, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it went from sea level to 6,000 feet in elevation and I had encountered snow and ice and rain and a mountain, which I'd never had. So after the first day I figured, hey, I can do anything."
Rife's fundraising goal for the trip is $75,000.
