CONWAY, SC -- Conway City Council members are expected to approve a measure Monday night that changes the town's ordinance on alcoholic beverages, essentially giving the go ahead to party in public. The item is written as "amending the Code of Ordinances".
Right now it's illegal to drink alcohol in public whatsoever in Conway. Specifically, the law says no one can drink beer, wine or other alcohol "on any public street, sidewalk, alleyway, park, recreation area, parking lot (whether owned by the municipality or privately owned, but generally open to members of the public without charge) within the limits of the city."
It also outlaws possession of open bottles, cans of beer and wine in public.
The changes would allow drinking and possession of open containers for special events to serve beer, wine, and hard liquor during festivals and special events.
Do you think allowing alcohol in public would be a good idea or not? We want to know what you think. Leave your comments below!
