A cat at the Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary in Horry County.
About 50-60 of the cats taken from the Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary will be put up for adoption Saturday morning.
Horry County's public information office says the owner of Sacred Vision, Elizabeth Owen, and her attorney, Greg McCollum, agreed to let Horry County hold a "Cat Adopt-A-Thon" for the cats that were removed from the sanctuary March 1st.
A judge ordered the county to take custody of 237 cats and a dog when Horry County Solicitor Greg Hembree requested it.
The animals were turned over to the Horry County Animal Care Center. It was determined 29 of the cats and the dog were Owens' personal pets, and they were returned to her.
After evaluating the remaining cats, a licensed veterinarian determined that 107 of them had to be euthanized for a variety of ailments.
101 cats remained and received treatment for illnesses like runny noses, ulcers and hair loss. Of those cats, Horry County says, 50-60 have been cleared by a license veterinarian and are ready for adoption. The reason the number is approximate, is because more cats could be cleared by Saturday.
The Adopt-A-Thon will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the holding facility where the cats are being kept. Horry County animal shelter officials didn't want the Sacred Vision cats treated at the county's main facility for fear they would spread disease to the cats already at the shelter.
The temporary holding facility is located at 200 River Road, behind Socastee High School.
The adoption fees will be $25 per cat and the cost will include spaying/neutering, microchip, Feline RCP vaccine, one year Rabies vaccine, Feline Leukemia testing, deworming, flea treatment, and 30-days free of pet health insurance.
The county says all of the cats that will be eligible for adoption have been examined by a licensed veterinarian and have also received antibiotic therapy.
