FLORENCE -- Florence County Magistrate Judge Mel Thompson denied bond for Harvey Cox Friday.

US Marshals arrested Cox in Silver Springs, Florida on March 3 for a charge of Committing or Attempting a Lewd Act Upon a Child under 16.

Police say Cox staged his death when he left his boat in the water near the Murrells Inlet boat ramp. His truck and wallet were found at the ramp.

The Coast Guard and Department of Natural Resources looked for Cox for days before someone reported seeing him in his hometown of Florence. Police say he disappeared to escape the sex charge. He was returned from Florida and booked into the Florence County Detention Center Thursday evening.
