HORRY COUNTY -- The Horry County Solid Waste Authority wants to sell items that are intended to end up in the landfill.
The county plans to create an thrift store by 2012 that would sell furniture, goods, and reusable lumber back to the community at their Highway 90 location just outside of Conway.
SWA board members say they hope to increase recycling efforts in the county.
Mike Bessant, spokesman with the SWA, told NewsChannel 15 that when the facility is up and running, people won't necessarily have to purchase items. They can also trade items they want to recycle for items other people have already recycled with the SWA.
Think of it as swapping one item for another; a lamp for a blender; a couch for a television set; a lawnmower for a rubber tires.
Bessant adds that if you have nothing to swap, the option to purchase a desired item is also available.
