CONWAY -- Some of the best names in beach music will soon have a home on the Grand Strand.
"Sixty Minute Man," recorded by The Dominoes, is one of the ten songs that will be inducted into the Beach Music Hall of Fame at Coastal Carolina University.
Other songs to be honored include "Shake, Rattle and Roll," recorded by Big Joe Turner; "Ain't That a Shame," recorded by Fats Domino; "The Great Pretender," recorded by The Platters; "Green Eyes," recorded by the Ravens; "Mama He Treats Your Daughter Mean," recorded by Ruth Brown; "Nip Sip," recorded by The Clovers; "One Mint Julep," recorded by the Clovers; "White Christmas," recorded by The Drifters; and "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee," recorded by Sticks McGee.
It will be the first-ever induction ceremony for the hall. CCU announced Friday, artists like Hank Ballard and the Midnighters, Fats Domino, and the Drifters make up the first line up of artists to be honored by the new institution.
"Many of the artists that we talked about today are the pioneers and forgotten giants of what we call beach music," said Dino Thompson, Beach Music Hall of Fame Committee President.
The late General Johnson, lead singer of Chairman of the Board, will be recognized at the ceremony, set for May 15th.
