The South Carolina Department of Transportation expects to have money left over when they're finished with four major Horry County road improvement projects.
Mike Barbee with the DOT gave an update to the Horry County Council Tuesday evening about the projects that are being paid for through a sales tax, approved by voters back in 2006.
"Despite some overruns on some projects, we're realizing significant savings on others," Barbee says.
The improvements include the Back Gate flyover, the Aynor overpass, widening of Highway 707, and the widening Glenns Bay Road. Those projects should cost around 300 million dollars.
"At this time, we're predicting a surplus, which is good news. We again just want people to be aware that it is based on the information we have to date right now, and that can change," Barbee says.
