Shaw Air Force Base will increase flying activity during the evening hours Tuesday through Thursday.

According to a base spokesperson, these flights provide F-16 pilots with the opportunity to train with night vision equipment and practice tactics that are critical to survivability in combat.

Shaw generally puts out a news release in advance of the night flights. The flights tend to lead to lots of phone calls from people wondering what they're hearing in the sky - and why.
